'The Big Goodbye: Chinatown and the Last Years of Hollywood' by Sam Wasson (397 page paperback)

Sight and Sound magazine's 'Book of 2020' is now available in paperback -it is an immersive look at the making of 'Chinatown' and an investigation into the lives of the key players/outsized personalities who brought it to the screen: Roman Polanski, Jack Nicholson, Robert Evans and Robert Towne. The film is also framed as marking the end of filmmaker friendly studios before the corporate world took over.
